Teacher of English (Part-Time)

To promote and ensure quality teaching and effective learning of English.
To support the wider aims of British Council and its cultural relations mission.
About British Council -

British Council Spain operates a network of teaching centres throughout the country, delivering English teaching to some 30,000 students every year. In addition to teaching students directly, we operate the British Councils only school, in Madrid, a sizeable exams operation, we offer support in English language learning around the country, and we run strong programmes in arts and education and society.

The majority of our teaching centre students are young learners - either early years, primary or secondary - with a sizeable number of adults.

We pride ourselves on the quality of the teaching we deliver in the classroom, and for that we depend on recruiting the best teachers available. Our teachers are professional and supported by academic systems and continuous professional development.

Main Accountabilities:
Plan, prepare and deliver high quality English language teaching that meets the needs of different customer groups taking into account individual learning styles. Ensure that lesson materials are tailored appropriately to the needs of particular groups and individuals.
Monitor and assess progress and provide regular feedback - both written and face to face - to help manage students performance throughout the course, and actively promote learner autonomy, using the setting and correction of homework for that purpose. Meet individually with parents and students as part of the students learning process.
Contribute to the development and improvement of the Teaching Centre by actively working as a member of the teaching team.
Complete teaching related administrative tasks (such as prompt completion of class registers, record of classwork, break duties or level testing) to specified standards.
Actively engage in professional development and performance management to ensure quality and high standards in teaching and learning and maintain British Councils position at the forefront of best ELT practices.
Contribute to the development of lasting, mutually beneficial relationships by enhancing students understanding of contemporary UK
Support local marketing and promotional strategy and assist the teaching centre team in delivering excellent customer service (placement testing and counselling students towards suitable courses are examples of that).
Ensure safeguarding and guidelines are applied and upheld in line with standards and policy for the following areas:
Child protection. Ensure all YL students are safe, secure and looked after while they are in our care.
Equality, Diversity and Inclusion.

Requirement of the role-
Part-time position for 12-15 hours a week. Mainly YL with some adult classes possible.
Most YL teaching takes place on weekday evenings (from 17.30-19h), some afternoons (from 15-17h) evenings from 19.00 -20.30 (Secondary and adults) and on Saturdays (EY/adults only). There are some adult classes in the mornings.
Increasingly our young learner teaching takes place in schools, so travel is often required. Corporate classes usually take place online or off our premises.
Teachers may be expected to work in more than one location, e.g. British Council centre and a partner institution.
Qualification

Essential
Undergraduate and or University degree
Cambridge CELTA and or Trinity CertTESOL
Desirable
Recognised diploma in English as a Foreign Language e.g. DELTA / Trinity Diploma
A PGCE / B.Ed in Primary or a relevant secondary subject is highly desirable.
Work Experience

Essential
2 years post-certificate i.e. CELTA / Trinity cert TESOL experience
Experience in teaching relevant age groups specific to the centre
Early Years aged 2 to 5 (400+hours)
Primary aged 6 to 10 (400+ hours)
Lower Secondary aged 11 to 14 (800+ hours)
Upper Secondary aged 15 to 17 (400+ hours)
University/Vocational students aged 18 to 25 (400+hours)
Adults General English 18+ (800+ hours)

Salary - Euro 22,979-33,179 annual gross pro-rata for part-time (depending on the education, experience and working hours offered)
