Offer Description
The Protein Folding and Conformational Diseases lab, led by Dr. Salvador Ventura (Orcid 0000-0002-9652-6351), at the IBB-UAB, is seeking a highly motivated and talented postdoctoral researcher to apply for the (BP2023), which is a competitive postdoctoral call by the Catalan Government.
The candidate, upon fellowship concession, will join our team to work on innovative therapies for neurodegenerative disorders. We are a dynamic and collaborative lab with a proven track record of groundbreaking research in protein engineering applied to solve biomedical problems.
About the Lab:
The lab employs a multidisciplinary computational and experimental approach to investigate the intricate phenomena of protein misfolding and aggregation. Beyond defining the fundamental mechanistic principles that govern these processes, we aim to understand how their deregulation leads to the formation of toxic amyloids and the onset of human conformational diseases, including neurodegenerative disorders. The ultimate objective is to develop and transfer innovative therapeutic strategies to combat these debilitating pathologies. In addition, our protein structure, design and engineering knowledge is exploited to fabricate novel multifunctional nanomaterials tailored for biomedical applications.
Specific Aims of the Project:
This project embarks on a bold mission to advance in Parkinsons Disease (PD) treatment by developing a first-in-class immunotherapy that specifically targets the toxic oligomeric forms of alpha-synuclein (aSyn), a key culprit in the disease. As a key member of this exciting project, you will:
This research has the potential to significantly improve the lives of millions of PD patients by providing a disease-modifying therapy that tackles the root cause of the disease.
