The Barcelona Institute for Global Health (ISGlobal) is a cutting-edge institute addressing global public health challenges through research, translation into policy and education. ISGlobal has a broad portfolio in communicable and non-communicable diseases including environmental and climate determinants, and applies a multidisciplinary scientific approach ranging from the molecular to the population level. Research is organized in three main areas, Malaria and other Infectious Diseases, Child and Maternal Health, and Urban Health, Climate & Non-Communicable Diseases. What We Are Looking for
ISGlobal is seeking a Citizen Science Specialist who is interested in leading the citizen science portion of the AVANTIA project under the Urban Planning, Environment and Health Initiative. AVANTIA is an international project being led by Metropolis and being implemented in Bogota, Spain. The aim of the project is to improve sustainable and active mobility in Bogota, including activities around air pollution monitoring and citizen engagement. Within ISGlobal, this project is being led by the Policy Department. ISGlobal will contribute to AVANTIA through several tasks, including providing technical expertise and capacity building for citizen science activities that help engage the local affected communities, raise awareness about air pollution and sustainable mobility and contribute to behaviour change.
The Citizen Science specialist will work with the team in Bogota to build capacity, develop protocols and materials and monitor the citizen science portion of this project. The Specialist will also contribute to other knowledge translation and policy activities of the overall project.
Key Responsibilities
Lead all aspects of ISGlobal´s citizen science tasks of the AVANTIA project
Work with project coordinators to ensure timely accomplishment of project´s objectives and deliverables
Specific Duties
Participate in the local diagnosis and assessment of the participating communities in Bogota
Work with the Bogota team to develop the Citizen Science methodology and protocols to be implemented
Develop and implement capacity building workshop on Citizen Science for the Bogota team (to be given in Bogota)
Monitor and provide technical support to the local implementation of the Citizen Science activities
Prepare written material related to the project, ie reports
Collaborate in the knowledge translation and policy aspects of the project
Attend project meetings
Other duties as assigned

Training and experience /Qualifications
Undergraduate degree in social or biological sciences
Graduate training in public health, pyscholoogy or related field is valued
Previous experience in research, community participation and communication
Experience in Citizen Science methods
Experience developing and implementing protocols is valued
